Solomonic 2024 Unwrapped

Another year has flown by and we wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for all your continued support - it is thanks to you that we have been able to achieve so much. As 2024 draws to a close, let’s take a moment to celebrate all that has shaped the last 12 months.

January

Solomonic delivers 10 years of data on the High Court of England and Wales!

The start of 2024 marked a major milestone for Solomonic: a complete decade of data on the High Court of England and Wales (2014-2023). We’ve become the go-to source for the most comprehensive analysis of High Court claims and judgments, and this year, we expanded our dataset even further. By year end we will have data on over 160,000 claims and actions on the platform. But we’re not stopping here. With ambitious plans to bring you even more insights (including Court of Appeal), we’re gearing up for another exciting year.

How do you make a rainmaker?

The legal services market has become significantly more competitive in recent years and High Court litigation is no exception. The challenging macro-economic environment, fundamental changes in client behaviour (including procurement), a decrease in the volume of High Court claims and the aggressive American firms have put a spotlight on firms’ and partners’ business development practices. Our CRO, Pete Nussey unpacked the vital role data and analytics plays in the making of a modern-day rainmaker.

February

High Court Commercial Disputes 2023

In early Feb, we released our 2023 Year in Review report. Our annual High Court commercial litigation data report offers valuable insights into the trends and dynamics of claims issued in the civil courts of England and Wales of the year gone by. We explored the dynamics of over 7,500 newly issued claims, the actors who participated in them and the more than 2,050 law firms that were instructed throughout the year.

Chambers dataset release

Developed in collaboration with South Square, we expanded our offering with comprehensive chambers data, providing an overview of over 200 chambers to complement our barrister insights. Now you can easily see which chambers handle the most claims, their claimant/defendant ratio, associated barristers and their claim value. We also unlocked further data views, including win/loss percentages and the relationships that reveal which law firms tend to instruct specific chambers or barristers.

March

Litigation’s long shadow: War, crises, scandals and cash (2023 and beyond)

Following the release of our report, we assembled a powerhouse panel of industry experts to delve into the insights and discuss the trajectory of High Court litigation in the coming years. The panel comprised of:

  • Maura McIntosh

  • Tom Dane

  • Hugo Marshall

  • Gareth Hunt

If you missed this, you can read the write-up, or watch the full recording.

London Legal Walk 2024

We rounded off the month with the London Legal Walk. The full Solomonic team showed up to walk the walk alongside over 18,000 others in support of free legal advice as part of the London Legal Support Trust 10k.

July

General King’s Bench judgments

Throughout the year, we worked hard to constantly keep adding more data to the platform, with July bringing insights and analytics on more than 1,100 General King’s Bench judgments. This not only gives you more background on judges, but also fuels richer analytical views including win/loss percentages, claim length and much more.

Solomonic data underpins key litigation market analysis

The demand for insights derived from data has never been stronger and the legal sector is no exception, but legal professionals have historically lacked access to such data to support informed decision making. We have been working alongside many of our customers and partners this year to extract platform data and intelligence to craft insightful, topical and compelling thought leadership pieces, industry reports and other content that ties in with current trends and topics.

If you would like to build your own data-driven stories with us, please contact our team on info@solomonic.co.uk and we will be more than happy to discuss.
