Key takeaways from Solomonic’s Super User Lab: Best-in-class tech, AI innovations and more

The Solomonic Super User Lab brought together top platform experts for an afternoon of collaboration and innovation. Hoi-Yee Roper, Senior Counsel at Farrer & Co, shared insights on maximising value from legal tech and practical use cases from the platform, empowering attendees to drive greater impact within their firms.

Last month, Solomonic hosted the 2024 ‘Solomonic Super User Lab’, an afternoon dedicated to collaboration and innovation. The event brought together our most active and enthusiastic users, often the go-to experts within their firms, known for their proficiency in navigating the Solomonic platform.

The workshop united some of the platform’s most active users across our client community from legal practitioners, insurers, funders to reputation specialists all to discuss their experiences with the platform, share insights and provide feedback.

What happened at this year’s Lab?

Future-proofing legal teams with legal tech

The event opened with a fireside chat. Hoi-Yee Roper, Senior Counsel at Farrer & Co joined our Head of Customer Success, Flávia Baldotto, to talk about legal tech adoption and innovation.

Roper painted a picture of the evolution of the legal landscape over the years, transitioning from offices filled with cardboard boxes of files to online documents and the recent explosion of interest in GenAI. She noted that there will always be early adopters and those who are slower to embrace technology, emphasising that it is a key function of the knowledge lawyer to bring different parts of the firm together, extracting maximum value from their tech stack.

Exploring how the Solomonic platform supports Farrer’s day-to-day operations revealed a range of impactful use cases. The intuitive UI, for example, helps time-pressed practitioners prepare pitches with ease, providing comprehensive reports, mapped relationships and analytics all in one place. This functionality offers substantial additional layers of insight beyond those traditional sources like BAILII or CE-File can provide.

However, Roper cautioned that while legal tech is critical, practitioners must always use their judgment and contextualise data to maintain the integrity of their advice.

Blue-sky thinking: Platform applications and future innovations

We then turned the spotlight onto the audience, who were tasked with working together on their tables to discuss their current use cases of the platform and then areas of platform improvements. Their ideas included expanded court coverage, adding more expert insights, customisable report creation and data visualisation options.

Our Customer Tech team is committed to implementing valuable new features and has already begun drafting plans to bring some of these ideas to life – stay tuned!

What’s on the roadmap?

We wrapped up the event with a quick rundown of our upcoming major initiatives our team is actively developing. Our CRO, Peter Nussey, highlighted how client usage has guided us toward reinforcing the four pillars most valued by our users: data, functionality, usability and customer support.

We told you…

  • Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence data: This module, now in testing and set to launch soon, includes a database of over 15,000 claims dating back to 2020. It's one of the largest modules on the platform, offering a new depth of insight.

  • More to come: While details are still under wraps, additional insights at the claim and judgment level are in development, along with expanded data sources, including appeal insights from the Court of Appeal.

You asked us…

  • AI: We are starting with ‘Claim Summaries’, AI-generated summaries that will provide a quick overview of claims without needing to open documents or piece together tags. Document digitisation and keyword search have also been commonly requested across our client base and are currently in progress.

  • Forecasting: We're working on predictive tools for key claim milestones and outcomes, developed with ongoing client feedback. Testing has shown promising results, with our Solomonic forecasting models identifying distinct outcome trends across various legal matters.

Each of these initiatives reflects our dedication to delivering the most valuable solutions to our clients.
