The report analyses data from over 7,400 new claims issued in the civil courts and the Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT), revealing major trends, sector activity shifts and the evolving risks facing law firms and businesses.

Key highlights:

Litigation landscape – New claims dropped 4%, but active cases hit a four-year high. Insolvency actions continue to rise, with construction firms hardest hit by winding up petitions.
Law firm rankings – The annual rankings reveal the top firms by claim volume, high-value disputes and hearing days, with competition still fierce between established powerhouses and fast-rising challengers.
Disputes hotspots – Trends in group actions, securities, crypto, ESG and CAT claims against ‘Big Tech’. Plus the most tracked cases of 2024.
Corporate risks & sector trends – Banking & finance, construction, and professional services remained litigation-heavy, while aviation, insurance, and shipping cases fluctuated. Utilities litigation spiked, largely driven by water company disputes.
Court dynamics – Cases are taking longer to resolve, but key courts are delivering judgments faster than before. Courtrooms remained highly active with major trials and interlocutory proceedings.
