First UK Intellectual Property Litigation Analysis Product Announced
Solomonic and Pinsent Masons kick-off forthcoming IP litigation analytics offering.
Leading litigation analytics startup Solomonic kickstarts major data analytics project, in preparation for the launch of their Intellectual Property and Patent litigation module.
The module, which is being developed in partnership with multinational law firm Pinsent Masons, and with additional guidance from barrister Henry Edwards of leading IP chambers, 8 New Square, will be the first time that decisions of this nature will be formally analysed in this jurisdiction.
The project will analyse a corpus of over 600 judicial decisions and will also encompass data on over 3,000 claims issued in the Intellectual Property list of the High Court since 2014. The analysis will look at outcome patterns, subject matter trends and legal arguments.
As project partners, Pinsent Masons will gain early access to the data as well as assisting in the development of the module. Christopher Sharp, IP partner at Pinsent Masons, commented “We’re really excited to be working with Solomonic on a module which has the potential to help shape case strategy and execution for our clients. As litigators we draw on our experience to assess judicial attitudes and likely outcomes of cases, but this module allows us to use data to advise our clients on a statistical basis about how a judge may approach a certain case.”
Henry Edwards, a barrister at 8 New Square, will play a role in ensuring the quality of the analysis is robust as well as in informing the construction of the product to support barristers as well as law firm practitioners.
Edward Bird, Solomonic Managing Director, added “We are thrilled to be working with such esteemed partners. IP litigation covers some of the most complex and high value cases and the English High Court is a vital jurisdiction for resolving global disputes in the life sciences and technology sectors. We expect the analytics to shed new light on some of the key questions practitioners and their clients have had on the Court and on its approach.”
Solomonic expects to launch the new module to the market before the end of the year. The new offering will sit alongside Solomonic’s Commercial Module which is already being used by the UK’s leading litigation firms to stay on top of the litigation market, enhance client advice and forecast outcomes.
