Solomonic & Stewarts
Litigation data insights drive compelling thought leadership
In a busy market, profiling your team’s expertise is crucial. With innumerable competitors attempting to do just this and vying for market attention, Stewarts, the UK’s largest litigation only law firm, recognised the value of leveraging high-quality and well-presented data to cut through the noise. The firm’s fraud team collaborated with Solomonic to spotlight key themes and trends in a meticulously crafted report that garnered media attention and practitioner engagement. This potent marketing asset not only enhanced the team’s visibility, but also resulted in new outreach, effectively showcasing their position as a leading player in the space.

Stewarts have a strong and experienced fraud team who have acted in some of the largest multi-jurisdictional fraud claims. But, in a busy market, they looked to demonstrate their expertise and leadership with a new and different perspective. At the start of 2023, a thought leadership project was established with Senior Associate Charlie Mercer and Senior Communications Manager Lydia Martin taking the lead.
The team approached Solomonic to explore data on fraud litigation trends and identify insights that could be gleaned from the data. Working together, Solomonic and Stewarts compiled and reviewed the data and explored the results. “The data revealed some interesting trends and reinforced and challenged our views on key themes in fraud cases that we were observing in our practice.” Led by Charlie, the Stewarts team articulated these into a report which they completed in the early summer.
Market communication began in the latter half of summer, with components of the report published and posted on the Stewarts website and via LinkedIn. The Solomonic marketing team also worked in collaboration to support with timely amplification via social channels. The report was sliced up for different target segments and shared with key legal and banking sector journalists, generating articles in The Global Legal Post, CDR Magazine, Law360 and the Banker magazine. The full report was also made available as a download via the Stewarts website, entitled ‘Analysing trends: Data from commercial fraud claims in England and Wales’.
The project also gave rise to several speaking engagements, with the team presenting the report at a variety of conferences, including at the 2023 International Economic Crime Symposium at the University of Cambridge, where key members of the fraud team addressed the issues raised in the report. Solomonic CEO, Edward Bird, also joined the panel.
“The report gave a huge boost to the visibility of the firm and most especially the fraud team – we saw impressions jump significantly,” noted Lydia.
In addition to the visibility the report generated, it also produced a wave of “new connections and contacts” according to Charlie, and the team have valued the heightened profile.
“Our primary goal was to build our profile and share our expertise” commented Lydia, adding, “We wanted to give our fraud team some standout visibility.”

“We are delighted with the outcome, so much so that we are going to work with Solomonic to repeat the report in 2024.”
